The Lutheran Church believes in the importance of
education.
You parents cannot prepare a more dependable
treasure for your children than an education in the liberal arts. House and
home may burn down and disappear, but an education is easy to carry off."
Martin Luther
St.
John’s Lutheran School has enjoyed over 63 years of educating young minds.
We are one of over 1,632 Lutheran Day Schools
operated by congregations of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. We
are a ministry of St. John’s Lutheran Church of Grand Haven, Michigan.
As Lutherans we use the Bible-based teachings of Martin Luther
which inspired the reformation of the Christian Church in the 16th century.
Our beliefs can be summarized in three short,
simple, yet powerful phrases: Grace alone, Scripture
alone, and Faith alone.
Our
program encompasses preschool, kindergarten, and grades 1-8. Our curriculum
complies with the standards of the State of Michigan and the Michigan
District of the Lutheran Schools. The areas of learning we offer include:
Religion, Language Arts, Social Studies, Science and Mathematics. We also
offer Physical Education, Media, Music, Choir, Art, Drama, and Band. We
have athletic opportunities on campus and in conjunction with the Grand
Haven Area Public Schools. We have a full computer lab in which we use the
curriculum called FUTUREKIDS.
In
setting us apart from other schools it is important to know that our
teachers
are professionally trained in Christian, synodical schools and
certified by the State of Michigan. We are a sponsored and supported
ministry of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Grand Haven, Michigan. We are
accountable to the Department of Education of the Michigan District of
Lutheran Schools. Our curriculum is permeated by a Christian philosophy of
education including daily instruction in religion and continuous training in
Christian living.
We
maintain a Christian School to fulfill a fundamental need––to help
parents carry out their God-given responsibility to bring up their child “in
the nurture and admonition of the Lord.” By doing this we also fulfill our
instruction from Jesus to “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy
Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” Matthew
28:19-20a.
Lutheran schools give parents the opportunity to exercise their rights to
religious freedom, even in their choice of their child’s school. We have a
tradition of excellence. Our mission is to educate the whole child:
spiritually, emotionally, mentally, academically, and physically. We
prepare children to succeed as moral, responsible, future leaders in their
church and community.
Our
parents take pride in the level of excellence and spiritual awareness their
child attains. Parents become financial partners with our congregation in
supporting their child’s mental, social, physical, and spiritual education
and believe their child’s well-being is more than worth the cost.
If you would like to provide your child with a quality
education in a nurturing environment where their body, mind, and spirit will
be fed...please call today for more information.

As
Lutherans we use the Bible-based teachings of Martin Luther which inspired
the reformation of the Christian Church in the 16th century. Our
beliefs can be summarized in three short phrases: Grace alone, Scripture
alone, and Faith alone.
Grace alone: “For it is by grace you have been saved, through
faith–and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God–not by works, so
that no one can boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9. We believe in the Triune God:
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit coequal and coeternal, one God. Though we
are sinful and rebel against Him and do not deserve His love, He sent
Jesus, His Son, to live, die, and rise from the grave in order to pay the
price for our salvation.
Scripture alone: The Bible is God’s inerrant and infallible
Word, in which He reveals His Law and His Gospel of salvation through
Jesus Christ. The Bible is the single source for proper Christian
doctrine.
Faith alone: Through His suffering and death, Jesus purchased and won
forgiveness and eternal life for everyone. Those who hear this good news
and believe it have eternal life. “For God so loved the world that he
gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish
but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to
condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” John 3:16-17.
